Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime Review - BUDGET SMARTPHONE REDEFINED!
Inside the box, you'll find a Sim-Pin, warranty card, micro USB cable and a 2A/5V charger. Now, let's get started!
First. Design, Aesthetics and Hardware!
DESIGN:
Gone is the plastic body of the entry Redmi series, now replaced with a flagship level quality metal back. It is a very premium built quality, with texture added to the metal, so that you would have a more comfortable grip on the device. On the back, you'll also find the Fingerprint scanner,
the 13MP Samsung Camera and a Dual-Led Flash.
The Volume and Power buttons are located on the upper right side of the device, making them easy to reach and use. Display quality is great, as for a budget device you get a very bright display, with good colour reproduction and deep blacks.
It's very neat that you are also able to use the new reading mode which has a blue-light filter, so your eyes won't get tired when you read.
On the bottom, there is a single speaker and a microphone grills, with a standard micro-USB port between them. It would have been nice to have a USB-C though. As an inspiration for the aesthetics, Xiaomi has chosen the Redmi Note 4 pictured below. In a sense, the Redmi 4 can definitely be called Redmi Note 4 Mini. As far as performance goes, you'll sleep well knowing you have the latest 64-bit - 2.0 GHz Octa-Core Processor in the Snapdragon 625 under the hood.
It runs cool, and it runs well. Backed up by 3GB of RAM and 32GBs of storage(+MicroSD slot)
it really is a formidable bundle for the asking price. You also get a Qualcomm X9 modem with 4G speeds up to 300 Megabits per second! It also supports LTE Broadcast, LTE Dual SIM, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling with LTE call continuity, HD and Ultra HD Voice (EVS)!

BENCHMARKS:
The Snapdragon 625 is the key here. It's not only fast but very, very efficient. Still not convinced? Take a look at the Antutu and Geekbench scores.
Built on the new and smaller 14nm mode it produces less heat when working in full throttle! Thanks to that it stays cool even when gaming for a long time. Speaking of gaming, Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime can run the heaviest 3D games out there without any issues.
All thanks to the amazing Adreno 506 Graphics!
BATTERY:
BATTERY:
The Redmi 4 Prime is also a battery champ! The 4100mAh Battery will get you through any heavy usage day and more!
I found that you can achieve 6hrs+ Screen-On-Time on a single charge, which is stunning. Xiaomi has supplied a 2A charger which takes around 3Hrs to charge the 4100mAh battery. But, you can easily pop the phone for 30mins and get a light day's usage out of it.
CAMERAS:
First, let's take a look at the interface and functions. The camera mode is simple, as you have your shooting button in the centre. The preview circle is on the left and the video mode on the right.
On the left side, just above the preview circle is your filters section. Be creative, these filters give an extra dimension of your photo. Try experimenting, it's fun :)
Just above the big white shooting button, you have your mods. With a Panorama, Timer, Beautify, Night, Manual and Tilt-Shift modes being the highlight. And the settings icon is on the top right.
For all of you selfie lovers out there, Xiaomi has a PRO beauty mode to really make you look great. There is also an Age function, but it's not very accurate :)
Video mode is OK, but I wish it had a Slow-Motion feature, sadly Xiaomi reserved that only for the Note and above series You can record FHD video, there is no optical image stabilisation. As for the photos themselves, the camera does not disappoint! In good lighting conditions (especially with HDR enabled) the phone takes great pictures.
Even indoors, the photos still look very good.
When the light goes down, you lose some quality, but Xiaomi has done their best and pictures still look much better than most phones at that price range and above.
The front cam is more than up to the task for social apps
Let's sum it all up now!
The Redmi 4 Prime offers a huge value for the money. It packs the PERFORMANCE, BATTERY LIFE AND CUSTOMIZATION OF A FLAGSHIP. Both cameras perform very admirably, I believe nobody will be let down at that price. Last year for all those features you had to pay 300$+ so this is a great deal for 160$. The only things missing for me are USB-C port and the Slow-Motion video, and the screen could have had a smaller border.
Thank you for your time, I hope you enjoyed the review!
