Facebook Mentions app comes to Android
The Facebook Mentions app, which was launched for iOS users back in 2014, has finally made it to Android. Later it was expanded to India and 40 other countries. The app lets public figures with verified profiles broadcast live videos, interact with followers, track trending stories, and more. The app also lets public figures post public updates without spamming their friends and family members. They can also post Twitter or Instagram updates from within the app as well.
The app requires 87MB of space on your phone and will work with phones sporting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and later operating systems. The verified account holders need to be public figures and famous personalities in fields such as sports, glamour world, journalism, technology and so on to get the Mentions account activated. That being said, Facebook currently has a ton of applications available in the Google Play Store. Aside from the main Facebook app, you’ll also find Messenger, Facebook Like, Facebook Pages Manager, Facebook Groups, various additions for Messenger, etc. Well, the company has actually launched yet another separate app a while back, but it was available only on iOS, until now.
In September last year, Facebook updated its Mentions app, making it available for all public figures with verified profiles on its iOS. The app was previously limited to select influencers only. In August, the app got the ability to broadcast live stream videos to allow actors, musicians, and other celebrities a new way to connect with their fans.
“We’ve been testing Mentions for Android with a handful of public figures around the world, and we’re looking forward to seeing how Mentions helps public figures on Android connect more deeply with their fans on Facebook,” said the company.
