LeEco to launch smart TVs with 4K display in India within a week

LeEco, electronics and media company, entered India earlier this year with its Superphones phones. Now company will be bringing its smart TVs with super large displays to the market here, hoping to take on the companies like Samsung,VU,Toshiba and Sony with aggressive pricing.

The TVs -- likely to be 3 X65 and 3 X55  -- are going to be launched in India this week..

Both the TVs, as their names suggest, have 65 and 55-inch screens. The TVs have 4K display and surprisingly powerful hardware that are more common to high-end smartphones.

The smart functionality in the TVs is powered by Android, which LeEco has customised with its own EUI interface. 

While LeEco is known in India for its smartphones, the company is making TVs for far longer. In fact, it was earlier known as LeTV before it rebranded itself this year.

Smart TVs have become an important category because it allows them to offer consumers a kind of ecosystem that has several screens, including smartphone. Xiaomi, for example, sells several high-end, but aggressively priced TVs, in China only.

As per our internal sources, LeEco is expected to launch its 3rd gen Super TVs initially in India, and will soon follow it up with the launch of their 4th gen models. While the exact models are not yet confimed as of now, it is expected that LeEco will go with the trend and launch the large 4K TVs in India alongside budget 40 inch LED models too.

LeEco has filed an application with the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to set up its retail stores in India. 

LeEco has given its nod to India's revised local sourcing norms , whichApple has yet to take a final call on. This may soon get processed as Tim Cook is keen to open Apple's stores in India soon. 

If approved, LeEco is planning to open at least eight flagship stores by December with its complete range and also convert the current online store Lemall.com run by a partner into a company-owned entity.
