LET THE BATTLE BEGIN!
1. HARDWARE DISCREPANCIES
You can see from the specs, although both phones are using the fastest chip on the market Snapdragon 821, there are discrepancies in the hardware. LeEco chose to opt for a smaller device at 5.2-inches, but more RAM. In the Audio hardware, we have Dual Speakers and Dolby ATMOS. Mi5S Plus has a bigger 5.7-inch display with the same resolution, but only has a single speaker on the bottom with a 3.5mm headphone jack, which LeEco have not included since the first phone.
They have, however, opted for a larger battery, which gives the phone a slight edge in battery life over the Mi5S Plus's 3800mAh. The biggest differences are in the camera department. LeEco uses a very potent and fast single Sony IMX298 sensor, as the main Cam and an 8MP front camera. Xiaomi opted for a dual Camera setup, packing both a RGB and a Monochrome sensor, which can work, together or just use the RGB single sensor. The front camera is also quite different as it's an Ultrapixel 4MP sensor.
2. DISPLAY QUALITY
LeEco continues to produce phones with that black border around the display,
Which really hurts the device's aesthetics, but saves a lot in manufacturing costs. The display on the Le Pro 3 is good, but definitely not a flagship one. It doesn't get too bright and sharpness and colour reproduction can be better. On the other hand, Mi5S Plus has a great panel, with great colour reproduction
brightness and sharpness. It's only weakness is the glossy finish, which reflects a lot of light and is hampering it in direct sunlight visibility. It has just a very, very thin black border, but it doesn't hurt the aesthetics. For me, a clear winner here is the Xiaomi Mi5S Plus. SCORE IS NOW 0:1 TO XIAOMI!
3. AUDIO AND SPEAKERS QUALITY
Here is where the LeEco Le Pro 3 excels! With dual Stereo DOLBY ATMOS Speakers and CDLA audio, it clearly is the better audio device. The Mi5S Plus's sound quality is just fine, and the single speaker's sound is clear and crisp as well. However, if you are an audiophile, definitely go for the Le Pro 3.
WINNER IS LeEco Le Pro 3.
SCORE IS NOW TIED AT 1:1!
4. GAMING AND GENERAL PERFORMANCE
Both phones pack the fastest Processor and Graphics - Snapdragon 821/Adreno 530. Gaming performance is not an issue with both devices, ABSOLUTELY BUTTERY SMOOTH GAMEPLAY IN ANY GAME! So you can enjoy the best graphics like in Dead Effect 2 and CSR Racing 2 :
Xiaomi Mi5S is faster in Loading heavier games, but the LeEco has more RAM and is more future-proof, from a technical point of view. Both open apps lightning fast and do not reload them. Benchmarks are also quite similar, with Xiaomi just edging in Geekbench, but Le Pro 3 winning Antutu by a small margin:
When it comes to watching videos and playing games, Xiaomi's screen has an advantage as it's better, but LeEco has better sound. Both are very important for full immersion, it's a shame that both do not
offer the full package, maybe LeEco Pro 4 or Xiaomi Mi6S Plus will :) SO, I CALL IT A DRAW!
SCORE IS STILL TIED AT 2:2!
5. CAMERA PERFORMANCE AND QUALITY
Both of the devices have a very similar user interface, that is heavily iOS inspired.
LeEco CAMERA INTERFACE
XIAOMI MI5S PLUS CAMERA INTERFACE
Both offer a very skimmed manual mode, with just up to 1/2 second of exposure, which is a shame. However, Mi5S Plus can shoot in Monochrome mode, which is cool and captures more light
It also has a STEREO MODE, where it uses both CAMS to get a coloured image with more light. PICTURES FROM BOTH PHONES LOOK GREAT IN GOOD LIGHTING CONDITIONS . Here is a photo and a selfie from LeEco Le Pro 3 on a sunny day.
Here is the same from Xiaomi Mi5S Plus:
Xiaomi's front Camera captures a bit more detail, due to the larger pixels used. LeEco captures more detail in the Main Cam shots, due to the IMX298's wider aperture, compared to Xiaomi's IMX258.
When the lights go down, it's a whole different story. Here is a Night shot from the Le Pro 3:
And here is a night shot with Xiaomi Mi5S Plus that utilises the STEREO MODE:
And here is a Monochrome Night shot that looks really cool and has plenty of light
As far as video quality goes, both phones offer a very good Front Cam video, great for VLOGs. It's shame that both phones don't have image stabilisation. Main cam Video is OK, but nothing great. Both can shoot 4K, but I've seen better 4K recording in flagships from LG and Samsung from 2-3 years ago. Slow-motion looks good and is 720P on both devices. Xiaomi Mi5S Plus Photo and Video Samples (FULL SIZE)
Mi5S Plus IS THE WINNER it's much more useful, thanks to the better night shots. SCORE IS NOW 2:3 IN FAVOUR OF XIAOMI!
6. BATTERY LIFE
LeEco has the upper hand here, thanks to a smaller and dimmer screen and a bigger battery. Both devices can last you over 5:30+ Hrs of Screen-on-Time a day!And they will get you through the heaviest of usage days without issues. LeEco might squeeze a half an hour, hour tops more, and that's why
LE PRO 3 IS THE WINNER HERE:
FINAL SCORE IS TIED AT 3:3!
CONCLUSION
As you might have realised by now, both devices aren't perfect but hold their own. While the LeEco Le Pro 3 offers a smaller body, better battery and better sound! Xiaomi Mi5s Plus offers bigger and better display and better cameras. Thank you for your time! Hope you enjoyed the review.
