UP Election 2017 special : AKHISLESH 5 YEARS ANALYSIS
Akhilesh reminds a bit of Rajiv Gandhi. He is young, modern and suave. He has less of drama and talks more of infrastructure. Especially in the last 2 years of his tenure, he has presssed the accelerator in infra growth with metro in Lucknow and a highway to Agra from Lucknow [Akhilesh Yadav’s poll vault: 5500 projects, 6 hours].
However, the law and order situation is extremely horrible. Just like the India under Rajiv, UP is in a state of chaos. Rapes have exploded and so are kidnapping and abduction. He was unable to control the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots and nor able to stop the lynching at Dadri [an incident that was conveniently blamed on the Prime Minister without understanding the backdrop of UP’s law and order].
His suspension of a key bureaucrat who took on the sand mafia backfired and the government had to backtrack - IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal's suspension revoked by Uttar Pradesh government. However, it is also true that in UP such attack on honest administrators were there even before.
