Meizu X Review - A Stunning Phone!

IMG_0224

Meizu have been written off by many in this year, but have slowly started to rise, delivering a handful of astonishing devices(which I will be reviewing)starting with the Meizu X(M3X)!

Hardware:

Now, this phone packs the new and very improved Helio P20 (2.3GHz Octa-Core with Mali T880MP2), the successor to Helio P10/15(found in Moto M, Meizu M3 Note, Vernee Mars, UMi Super and more).
The Helio P20 is a direct competitor to the Snapdragon 625(Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime, Moto Z, Zenfone 3, Huawei Nova...) and it really delivers, as you'll see in the Performance segment.
It's built on a newer fabrication process, meaning that it's smaller and generates less heat, extending battery life and performance, while keeping cool.
It's also the first MTK chip to use DDR4X(ultra low-voltage, for even better battery life).
The Meizu X packs a gorgeous 5.5-inch IPS FHD Screen with very thin bezels, making for a great viewing experience. A truly flagship display with vivid colours, deep blacks and great sunlight visibility.
The camera is one of Sony's latest Exmor RS series - IMX386 with Phase-detection AF, a very capable sensor for the price, and much better than most of the competition.
The Signature Meizu Front All-In-One button (that is a back, home, menu and fingerprint scanner)
The body is a one-glass solution and is super-light and feels great to hold, thanks to the textured sides.

Here are the Complete Specs:

In short, Meizu X is a top device when it comes hardware and feature, with only noticeable downside being the absence of NFC.

DESIGN:

IMG_0192
On the top we find the noise cancelling mic, along with proximity/light sensor and the actual microphone and Front Camera.

IMG_0194
On the Right side is the volume and power buttons, which are very stable and provide good feedback.
And on the other side you'll find the Dual Nano-Sim/SD compartment.

IMG_0209
The Back looks stunning thanks to the glass finish and on the bottom you have the speaker, USB-C port, another noise-cancelling mic and the 3.5mm headphone jack.

IMG_0219
The Meizu X is also quite thin and solid thanks to the metal rim around the edges, which is painted with just a small bit of texture to provide excellent grip.

And here is the 5.5-inch IPS Display in action again, while the Display is 5.5-inches, it's not a big phone, because it has great screen-body ratio.

In short, Meizu X feels like a flagship in design and build quality!

USER INTERFACE AND FEATURES:

Meizu's Flyme OS is as legendary as the MIUI in Xiaomi, as they have been using the same design principle from the get-go, which is simplicity in use, and elegant design.

You also get plenty of features and customization options, like the Blue-Light Filter, advanced Power management,

Home key customization, drive assistant and advanced Notifications manager.

The best feature on Flyme OS right now is the Multi-Window Interface

You just slide up from the home to open the recent apps menu, and when you see a "Multi" button on the windows, it means you can dual-app at the same time, like for instance

Chrome+Youtube or Facebook+Twitter, and both apps work great and can be controlled individually without any issues!

In short, Flyme OS runs great and once you get used to it, you probably won't touch anything else.

PERFORMANCE, BENCHMARKS AND BATTERY LIFE:

General performance and gaming was very smooth on the Meizu X, I had no issues Multi-Tasking, running graphics intensive games and in general performance.
As I said earlier, this is a direct competitor to the Snapdragon 625, and it scores and performs higher in almost all benchmarks!
Here are bechmark scores comparison with Redmi 4 Prime from
Antutu, Geekbench, Epic Citadel and AndroBench:

Here you see a slight difference in GPU score, but the Helio P20 is the clear winner when it comes to CPU(UX).

Geekbench scores continue to prove that the Helio P20's CPU performance is a big improvement, especially in multi-tasking than the Snapdragon 625.

Epic Citadel scores are practically identical, with the Adreno 506 edging the T880MP2 by a SINGLE FRAME, which in reality is nothing.

Games also ran great, with no performance issues, just like in the Redmi 4 Prime, you can check them out in the VIDEO REVIEW

Battery life is definitely not an issue with the Helio P20 as the standby time, GPS and Gaming take little toll on the 3200mAh battery, with over 6Hrs of SoT on a heavy usage day, or 4-5Hrs over the course of 2-3 days with moderate usage possible.

In short, the Meizu X and Helio P20 deliver in Performance and Battery Life, matching and even exceeding 95% of the device within that price range!

CAMERA REVIEW:

I really loved how both cams performed in good conditions, delivering flagship image quality for half the price! Low-Light images can be tricky to take, but as long as you spot-focus on a illuminated subject, photos look very good.

You can check out the Camera Video Review

Meizu's camera interface hasn't changed much, and you can see it still offers all the modes you need.
15933855_10209392648832312_1850034419_o   15934263_10209392648952315_1210545222_o

The 12MP Main and 5MP camera are both capable, and can record 1080p Videos, and you can apply the same filters on them.

The Full Manual Mode is available in both cams, as well as the Customizable Beauty Mode in on the Front Cam.
I found the 12MP Sony camera to perform outstanding in good conditions

P61225-090357

The Front Cam is also quite capable

In short, Meizu X delivers a great camera experience, and with future updates it will only improve further.

CONCLUSION:

Meizu X is just a great phone. With good performance, battery life and cameras, while having a stunning look and features, it's very hard to beat at ~200$/~14000Rs price tag.
