Meet earth's new cousins ; TRAPPIST -1
NASA made an announcement, along with partners around the world, that they have found seven potentially Earth-like planets 40 light-years away. The system is just 40 light-years away. On a cosmic scale, that’s right next door. They are also orbiting a star like we orbit around the sun. They are orbiting
around an ultracool dwarf star called TRAPPIST-1.The planets are so close to each other and the star that there are seven of them within a space five times smaller than the distance from Mercury to our sun.
Michaël Gillon, the lead author of the Nature paper said "It’s the first time that so many planets of this kind are found around a same star,” he further added “The seven planets could have some liquid water and maybe life on the surface.” Researchers believe that it is very rare to find a planet that has similar qualities and most importantly it should contain water.
