Sony sold more than a million of VR handsets

Sony PlayStation VR is already a massive hit selling nearly one million VR handsets. Even the company is surprised by the popularity of Sony’s PlayStation VR handsets.

This is obviously a solid bit of sales, and Sony really is sticking it to its competition, particularly the Facebook-backed Oculus Rift which is currently involved in unwanted situations, which is trying to prevent the device from being sold altogether with Zenimax claiming the current product uses stolen IP.

Sony has taken over its rivals by selling 915,000 units in just first four months and one thing which is crystal clear is PSVR is doing what others are not. Sony’s VR headsets will exceed sales of the targeted one million before mid-April.


It’s hard to get a sense of what virtual reality feels like without trying it out for yourself. Sony itself has organized some demos to try the PSVR.Sony, which was struggling in the electronics and film business, continues to perform exceptionally well in the multi-billion dollar video gaming market. It has sold over 50 million units of the PS4 globally, beating Microsoft’s Xbox One and Nintendo’s Wii U.


According to a research PlayStation VR could sell around 2.6 million units this year. But with increasing demand, Sony will need to maintain strong production.

Indian companies are constantly innovating to make VR affordable for the rest of us.


 So for Indians taking the first tentative steps towards trying out the future, by investing in a VR headset or a VR-paired phone, 2016 seems to be making sure their investment will not be in vain — the critical mass of content for Virtual Reality is being created right here, using a mix of education and entertainment. The future has arrived!
