HON’BLE PRESIDENT OF INDIA LENDS SUPPORT TO UBERSHAAN
Delhi, April 02, 2017: The Hon’ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee today, visited Uber’s kiosk and interacted with Uber driver partners at the inauguration of a driver training centre at Deoghar, Jharkhand. The driver training centre will be run by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). The initiative is backed by Uber, the smartphone app that connects riders with drivers at the push of a button. The company has committed to providing economic opportunities to the graduating drivers as part of its flagship initiative, UberSHAAN.
Commenting on the inauguration, Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said, “India is undergoing a great phase of change, a phase involving an increase in demand for skilled workforce. Providing one-stop solutions for aspiring entrepreneurs through platforms like the driver training centre in Deoghar will further the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister to make India, the skill capital of the world. We are supportive of the country-wide initiative to create 1 million micro-entrepreneurs by 2018.”
UberSHAAN, aims to create 1 million livelihood opportunities as micro-entrepreneurs in India by 2018 and focuses on expanding economic opportunities across the spectrum. Through this initiative, Uber will help the graduating drivers receive commercial licenses and support the entrepreneurial ambitions of licensed drivers requiring vehicle financing and leasing solutions.

Since the launch of UberSHAAN, the company has organized multiple ‘UberSHAAN’ melas in different cities across India.
