Latest Mozilla Firefox browser update allows users to block and configure autoplay feature
Firefox finally got the ability to block the video and audio autoplayfeature. Mozilla has added this functionality in the Firefox Nightly over the weekend. Nightly is the test version of the Firefox browser.
A developer of Mozilla Corporation, Dave Harvey tweeted, “We are adding the ability to block and configure auto playing videos with sound in Firefox, can check it out in @FirefoxNightly today (comments welcome)”.
In the latest update, Firefox users will see a prompt by default when they open a website, seeking permission for the website to autoplay the video with sound. There’s another option of blocking this feature for all the websites they visit. To do this, users can head to the preference of the browser and and block it for all websites.
As of now, this feature is only available for the Nightly build of the Firefox browser, but it will roll out to the main version in October.
Apart from this, the latest update will also bring the ability to block automatic downloading of software from website publishers and advertisers.
Google added a similar feature in Chrome 66 build of the browser. Back in June 2017, Apple also added autoplay blocking feature to its Safari browser for macOS High Sierra.
Mozilla announced Firefox Reality web browser
Mozilla is also working on an all new Firefox web browser specially designed for Virtual and Mixed Reality headsets called Firefox Reality.
Mozilla announced in its Mixed Reality blog that in the initial phase of the development, the web browser will run in Developer mode on Google Daydream VR and Samsung Gear VR headsets.
