Dyson Pure Hot+Cool review: Engineering Marvel created by James Dyson Company

Before we start, we would like to answer Is it worth upgrading from your inexpensive air purifier?
As we all are spending more time than ever at home during these lockdowns, home’s air quality is of the utmost importance these days. Yes Dyson is a expensive but giving you a quality for your money.

Outdoor air pollutants and contaminants often manage to find their way indoors through open doors and windows. Indoor air can also carry dust pollutants like dust, and microbes that affect air quality and may cause respiratory issues.

Dyson markets its Pure Cool HP04 Air Purifier and Tower Fan as an efficient air purification solution that dramatically improves indoor air quality in addition to that giving you a warm air at same time during winters. I will agree this Dyson product is specially designed for markets like India where we see a increase in pollution level before Diwali season and during winters.

To see whether the Dyson Pure Cool HP04 Air Purifier and Tower Fan lives up to the claims and outperforms cheaper models, we put it to the test among users with and without respiratory conditions, in a home.

To make these kind of Marvels Sir James Dyson started this brand in 1991 after creating around 5000 different prototypes of Vaccum cleaner. As you probably know by now, Dyson doesn’t just make vacuum cleaners but also a range of other sleek devices for the home.

Design:
If you’ve seen Dyson’s other fans or heaters then the Pure Hot+Cool follows that form. It’s a sleek and premium style that’s quite futuristic.

The lower part looks similar to other models, like the Pure Cool Tower, with a silver cylinder punched with small holes. Inside this section sits the filters.

One feature the Pure Hot+Cool brings versus its predecessor (the Hot+Cool Link) in terms of design is that a small LCD screen sits on the front.

Using the remote control, which attaches to the top with a magnet like other models, you can flick through a variety of different displays on the screen. It can tell you basic things like the current and target temperature, various details about the air quality.

Features:
If you’re used to a basic fan or heater with perhaps three different settings, the Pure Hot+Cool is a bit like driving a futuristic spaceship like product. There are 10 fan speeds and you can set the temperature between 1 and 30 Celsius atleast which is one present here in Indian market.

There’s plenty more adjustment too, with a tilt function and up to 350 degrees of oscillation. If you just want it to purify the air without blasting you, there’s a diffuse mode which essentially means air is kicked out the back instead.

Cooling is almost as impressive and while it might not blow you as strongly as some fans, that can easily be a bit much. The Dyson cools more gently, and the amount of control with fan speed combined with oscillation is unrivalled.

The device is very quiet in everything it does, even at a high fan speed so if you’re often annoyed by a loud fan then this will be blissful.  From a safety point of view, a bladeless fan is better if you have pets or children, so the Dyson ticks those boxes too.

It’s clever too. Set it to auto mode and the machine does all the work for you, turning itself on when it sense pollutant in the air, and turning off when it’s not needed. You can also set it for specific temperatures, so if you want the room a comfortable 20 degrees and it drops beneath that, the heater will automatically kick in.

If you are planning to buy an air purifier, consider a few things including the room size, the clean air delivery rate (CADR) and POLAR test, air changes per hour (ACH) and the type of filter in the purifier, among other things. CADR is affected by room area and height. The CADR should ideally be two-thirds of the room size. So, for a room measuring 300-350 sq.ft., a CADR of 200-250 cubic metres an hour (m3/h) is preferable.

While most air purifiers are rated after what are known as clean air delivery rate (CADR) tests, Dyson uses another test called POLAR. The CADR test is done in a room around 127 sq ft in size, where the purifier is placed in the middle of the room, with an added fan to circulate the air around the room and only one sensor to measure air quality. This is absolutely not representative of the layout of most of our living rooms, which may not always have a ceiling fan to circulate the air (in winters, for instance) and surely don’t have space for a purifier in the middle of the room.

A POLAR test lab is based on a larger room size of 27m2 (290 sq ft), with no added fan. The air purifier is placed in corner of the room which replicates how it is used in our homes and pollution injected into the room from the other corner. The test uses eight sensors in the corners of the room and one sensor in the centre, detecting particles of indoor air pollution that are 300 times narrower than a human hair. This is to test the performance of the purifier in the farthest corners of the room, and not just in the immediate vicinity of the air purifier. I think Dyson is putting their products to next level testing with Polar test.

To get better idea about test watch below video:

Dyson says that it captures 99.95% of ultra-fine particles such as allergens and pollutants. We can’t verify that but it sounds good and one of the displays will let you know how they are doing in terms of lifespan.

Like the Pure Hot+Cool Link, you can hook your phone or tablet up to the device. This added smart element is great, giving you another way to control the device. Of course, it’s more faff than the remote control for quick changes but you can do things like set the heater going so a room is nice and warm when you get home.

We found the Dyson Pure Cool HP04 was effective at improving air quality. We tested the unit by running it in a room that initially showed slightly unhealthy air quality levels, according to the display on the unit. Within few minutes of running it on 10/10 speed, the in-app reader was showing that the room’s air was clean. It was most effective in smaller enclosed spaces, like bedrooms, but it also performed ably in larger areas including living rooms and open-concept layouts.

We found that the indoor air inside of the bedroom the machine was running remained at consistently clean levels even though the EPA had categorized the outside air as unhealthy, with the Air Quality Index approaching 250+.

Setting it up is simple. It comes almost fully assembled in the box, and all that needs to be added is the filters in the base, which clip in reasonably easily. Those filters are important; the 360 degree glass filter will trap particles that are smaller than the width of a human hair, the carbon filter will remove gases and odours from your room.

Once you have the filters in, you can get started. But it’s worth taking the time to set up the Dyson Link app and connect the fan to your home wifi. That allows you to monitor your air quality over the day even when you aren’t at home, and keep an eye on trends over the weeks.

You can get real-time information from the small display on the front of your machine, with a graph that veers between green and red as it picks up indoor pollutants and filters them out, but if you aren’t there to see it it is hard to keep track of what is going on.

Final Verdict:

Product is available for INR 55,900/- on Amazon, Flipkart, Multi retail outlets like Croma and on Brand website. Product is available in two colours Iron Blue and Silver White.

we would like to rate this product 9.5 /10 for its unique futuristic design and quality. Dyson after sales service and service quality is one of the top factors that we loved out. we have reviewed Dyson Tp03 model before and have got best inclass after sales service from brand.

The Pure Hot + Cool will filter all that out, trapping it in the HEPA and carbon filters in its base. Over time, they’ll need to be replaced, but the Dyson app will also give a heads up when that’s needed.

Talking about a few technical aspects, we love to suggest Dyson Purifiers, it is good to look for CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate), the higher the CADR number, the more air it filters per minute for that particle size range, look for devices that are ozone free and with low noise levels.

The air purifier makes less than 54 decibels noise making it convenient to use the air purifier. This feature makes it easy to use the air purifier in your kid’s room or when you are sleeping. Its Hot + cool features makes it one of the best available products in Indian Market during this winter season.

We will definitely recommend this product to our subscribers and readers.
